FUNTREK'S FIVE DAY PUB TOUR

DAY 1 - DEPART US

DAY 2 - ARRIVE DUBLIN

Arrive early morning into Dublin Airport where you will be met by your driver/guide and escorted to your motorcoach. Head northwards from the airport through Co. Louth & Co. Down and into Co. Armagh, where you will stop and enjoy a visit to Armagh City. Armagh is the spiritual capital of Ireland, where St. Patrick built his stone church in AD445. Explore the city on foot: two cathedrals, museums, 18th century observatory, archbishops palace and stables. The prehistoric Navan Fort, capital of the Kings of Ulster is 2 miles west of the city and well worth a visit.

We continue northwards via Dungannon & Cookstown and into Co. Derry. Derry is the North's of Ireland's second city. The historic city of Derry is the best example of a walled city in Ireland.

An Overnight stay in Trinity Hotel, Derry City on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

DAY 3 - GIANT'S CAUSEWAY & BUSHMILLS DISTILLERY

Today you can head northwards from Derry along the coast coast to explore the fabulous Giants Causeway - regarded as the "8th Wonder of the World". The audio visual presentation in the excellent visitor center will recall all the legends surrounding the causeway and you will be able to explore the amazing stone structure. After the Giant's Causeway continue onto the Old Bushmills Distillery, where you will have the opportunity to see this age old process of distilling at firsthand, and to try and taste the difference between the Single Malt and Black Bush after your tour.

Return to Derry City in the afternoon, where you will have a chance to explore the award winning Tower Museum --detailing the history of the city and you will have some free time to enjoy the local shopping.

Tonight after dinner in your hotel, there will be traditional Irish entertainment by local performers and artists. Overnight in the Trinity Hotel, Derry or similar.

Day 4 - DERRY, OMAGH, DUBLIN

Depart Derry City along the River Foyle to Strabane and on to Omagh. You may like to visit the Ulster American Folk Park Follow in the footsteps of the thousands of men and women who in the 18th and 19th centuries left Ulster to seek a new life in America. Here in contrasting Old World and New World settings you will see the types of dwellings, farm out-houses and craft workshops that the emigrants used on both sides of the Atlantic. Visit the authentically-furnished thatched cottages of rural Ulster and the log cabins of frontier America and you will be sure of a warm welcome from the costumed interpreters as they busy themselves at their everyday tasks. Turf fires, the aroma of baking bread and clicking of the spinning wheel all contribute to the special atmosphere of bygone days. You can even travel with the emigrants on board the emigrant ship and experience the sounds, smells and dreadful conditions of life at sea.

Continue onto Dublin where you driver will do a brief orientation tour of the city as he heads towards your city center accommodation - the Paramount Hotel or similar. Enjoy some free time to freshen up and explore the city a little on your own, before joining in a "musical pub crawl" in the evening.

The pub crawl is a fun filled evening with music, song and drink. The crawl which starts at Oliver St. John Gogarty's in Temple Bar is led by two professional musicians. The tour lasts about two and a half hours and drinks are consumed in Gogarty's, McDaids, The Clarendon and O'Donoghues. There is ample opportunity to join in on the craic as you are provided with a songbook. The voices usually get louder as the night goes on. It is a perfect way to experience Dublin's famous pubs and musical tradition.

Overnight in the Central Hotel, Dublin on a bed & breakfast basis.

DAY 5 - DUBLIN CITY

This morning you will be met at your hotel by your driver, and a local Dublin City Guide. Enjoy a tour of Ireland's Capital City, highlighting points of interest such as O'Connell Street, St, Stephen's Green and one of the largest parks in Europe - The Phoenix Park, where the American Embassador to Ireland and the Irish President's residences both are located. Your tour will include a visit to Trinity College, where you will have the opportunity to see the Book of Kells, and also St. Patrick's Cathedral. The final stop on the city tour will be the Guinness Hop Store, which is a 'museum" dedicated to Ireland's most famous export. The Hop Store explains the brewing process.

This evening enjoy a finale evening in one of the local pubs in the trendy Temple Bar. The Temple Bar Area of the city, is the area in Dublin around which much of the musical and artistic life of the city now revolves. The Temple Bar area is a warren of streets between the Central Bank on Dame Street and the quays. This area has been rescued from a 1980s plan to transform it into a central bus station and is currently undergoing the most ambitious urban redevelopment undertaken in Dublin this century. The Temple Bar project is both imaginative and exciting. Streets have been re-cobbled and the new Irish Film Center has opened in the old Quaker Meeting House on Eustace Street. Hyped as the "Left Bank" of Dublin, the ever-changing area is densely textured with offbeat shops, pubs, restaurants and galleries.

Overnight in the Central Hotel, Dublin on a bed & breakfast basis.

DAY 6 - DEPART IRELAND

Alas it is time to bid farewell. Your driver will transfer you to Dublin International Airport for your transatlantic flight back to the US.
