Ireland is recognized as being the outstanding angling destination in Europe. The vast variety and quality of fishing has given the country a reputation of which the Irish are proud. There are virtually thousands of lakes and many different species of fish for you to choose from and 14,000 km of fish bearing rivers. In Ireland the visitor finds uncrowded waters containing a rewarding variety, quality and quantity of fish. When you also consider that many of these waters are virtually unfished - or at most under-fished - it is a situation rarely, if ever, found in Europe.

For the angler who wants quality more than quantity, Ireland has really something to offer. The pike fishing is legendary, the rudd amongst the best in Europe, whilst the tench and bream live up to their tackle-breaking reputations.

Irelands reputation as a haven for the game angler is steeped in tradition. Within a narrow compass, many areas can offer a variety of stillwater and river fishing at a cost that is always reasonable.

For the sea angler there are 3,500 miles of island punctuated coastline to explore, ranging from rocky outcrops, where multicoloured wrasse and hard fighting pollack abound, to miles of surf beaches where you will probably never see another angler and instead have the company of bass, rays, spurdog…. Even shark have been caught from the shore in some areas.

The boat angler is equally well catered for with charter boats and friendly, helpful skippers situated in all the top angling centers. It has to be said that deep-sea fishing is still in its infancy in Ireland, with many wrecks yet to be discovered and fished. All of the fisheries are managed and stocked, while banks and access routes to the waters edge are developed to ensure the visitor gets directly and easily to the hotspots. Our fishing packages will ensure that you get the best quality and service on offer.

The neighboring lakelands of East Clare have quality services and facilities for the angler whilst the unrivalled asset of Lough Derg and the Shannon waterway provide both game and coarse angling. Welcome to the beautiful Shannon Region - the Mid-West of Ireland.

Here in the Shannon region you can set out on open roads and discover stunning Atlantic coastal beauty, and ever changing landscapes, in an atmosphere as friendly as the air is pure. The Shannon Region - which is less than 100 miles from end to end will provide abiding memories - great beauty, great activity and great fun in a holiday playground carved out by nature.

The Shannon Region

Types of Fishing Available in Ireland:

The Brown Trout
A native Irish species, and the most widely distributed freshwater fish in Ireland. It thrives in rivers of all types, from small mountain streams to broad limestone rivers such as the Boyne or the lower Liffey. Its main requirements are clean water.

The Pike
Pike is one of the most widespread of Irish fish and pike fishing is as old as Irish angling. Pike are predators, but a big pike is perhaps the greatest predator still living in the wild in these islands. Its physical make up - smooth enameled body, the great head - has a beauty, which no one appreciates more keenly than the pike angler. It is said that pike thrive on neglect, and in Irish waters they have every opportunity. All standard methods of pike fishing may be practiced in Ireland (except for live baiting, which is banned). Ireland's wild windswept waters have produced pike of legendary size, several of them exceeding 50lbs.

Sea Angling:
The 3,500 mile shoreline of Ireland is probably more varied than found in any other European country. It ranges from the steep to shingle beaches in the east, through the quiet backwaters, lazy estuaries, quaint harbors of the south, to the massive cliff faces and roaring storm beaches of the west and north west. This encourages a wide range of marine life and virtually every species known to exist in European waters has been captured at one time or other on rod and line.

Game Angling:
The essence of game angling is the pursuit of native fish in wild places; Ireland offers a unique opportunity to experience such fishing. Salmon, trout and sea trout are native species with an honored place in Irish culture.
