Designed by Ryder Cup player Des Smyth, Waterford Castle Golf Course is located on a 310 acre island surrounded by the River Suir. The course runs to 6814 yards and features water on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 16th holes. The two most difficult holes, the par 4's at the 9th and 12th. Index one comes at the 9th, 1 414 yard uphill, dog leg right. Two good shots required here as there is little or no run on the uphill terrain. The 12th is 456 yards and even though it is downhill, is a fine test of distance and accuracy. The luxurious Waterford Castle Hotel is within the estate.
