Slieve Russell is an exceptional test of championship golf. Think eggs in a basket and you have a picture of the drumlin country into which architect Patrick Merrigan has woven a series of 18 holes that pitch and roll in and around the natural shapes of the land. The only compromise has been to add definition to some of the water hazards so delightfully exampled on the par five 13th hole. This is a left hand crescent shaped test where you risk water carry as much as you dare and still face a water challenge with your second or third shot to an elevated green.
