Parkland 18 hole, Par 72 - A true championship venue in a stunning setting, since 1995 Fota Island has hosted the Irish Amateur Open as well as the Irish Club Professional Championship. In 1999 a major renovation of the course was completed to position Fota as a likely host for the Murphy's Irish Open in 2001. This superb parkland course was designed by Christy O' Connor Junior and Peter Mc Evoy and is situated in the 316 hectare estate of Fota Island. In the traditional design of the course the run up shot is given the true regard. Fota is very traditional in its design, Golf Digest noted that "Almost every green invites more than approach work depending on how you 'see' the shot…you could be playing any one of three different clubs. In other words, it makes you think. It's real golf."
